Membership Information

At NorthwestKiaTuners, we take a lot of pride in living in the Pacific Northwest, as well as having a lot of pride in our rides. That pride is also carried over into being a part of the fastest growing, and most active Kia car club in the Pacific Northwest, if not the West Coast for that matter.

We created this community for the rapidly growing number of Kia tuners in the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and lower British Columbia, Canada), and their rides. We've established certain membership criteria that need to be met, and adhered to by each new member prior to your membership being accepted. This is done to create a strong, positive community, with an even stronger network of like-minded members that are able to share knowledge, skills, and maintain a high-level of enthusiasm for the sport of car tuning.

If this sounds like something you're willing to be a part of, then please review the following information regarding your membership with NWKT. These guidelines are to be followed by all NWKT members. It cannot be stressed enough that you review these guidelines carefully, and if you agree to them, and are willing to abide by them, then fill out the application form below, and submit it to the site administrator. Be advised, clicking the “Submit” button on the application form constitutes your acceptance of these terms.

Minimum Requirements for Membership

Vehicle

No matter what model Kia you own, it will now need to have a MINIMUM of three (3) acceptable modifications done to the vehicle to be considered for membership in NWKT. They can be, but not limited to, three of the following:

  • Window tint

  • Aftermarket audio/video/gaming systems
  • Exhaust upgrade (can be a factory accessory option, or custom made, with/without headers)
  • Intake upgrade (can be factory accessory option, or custom made)
  • Suspension upgrade (including, but not limited to poly-urethane bushings, sway bars, coil-overs, lowering springs, air bags, etc.)
  • Lighting upgrade (can be just a bulb upgrade, or a full-on H.I.D. upgrade)
  • Graphics (and not just window decals - needs to be body graphics, or the like)
  • Custom Paint (exterior body paint upgrades, i.e. two-tone paint, pearl clear coats, flames, graphics, etc.)
  • Brake upgrade (can be rotor upgrade, rotor & caliper upgrade, painted calipers, etc.)
  • Body Kits
  • Wings/scoops (tastefully installed)
  • Engine electronics upgrade (grounding kits, hyper voltage systems, etc.)
  • Interior upgrades/modifications (upholstery, some painting, illumination changes/additions, etc.)

On the flip side, there are several items that are deemed to be UNACCEPTABLE for membership with NWKT. They are, but not limited to:

  • Unfinished body work (including bondo, fiberglass, etc.)
  • Primered exterior
  • Anything unpainted (body kits, scoops, body panels, etc.)
  • Vehicle damage (major dents or dings, broken glass or mirrors, accident damage, etc.)
  • Rims that don’t all match
  • Damaged window tint (peeling, bubbles, discolored, aged, etc.)
  • Anything determined to be unsafe

*If you’re unsure if your vehicle has any acceptable, or unacceptable items on it, please feel free to contact an NWKT Staff member for verification.

All Members

In addition to the above stated vehicle requirements, here are a few things that we ask of each member of NWKT:

Respect - This is a big thing with NWKT. Not at any time will any NWKT member disrespect other NWKT members, for ANY reason. It doesn’t matter if it's on our forums, face-to-face, through emails, phone calls or even communications outside our community (other forums, websites, etc.)… you will always respect other members of NWKT, their opinions, and ideas, as you would want them to respect yours. It's that simple. Conversely, if you hear, see, or read about any member of NWKT, or the community itself being disrespected, you will discuss that issue with other members of NWKT, and democratically we will decide what actions should be taken, if any. Please, do your best not make any impetuous comments without first discussing the issue with fellow NWKT members.

Pride - Another big thing with NWKT is having pride. Not only in our rides, but pride for NWKT. We're all here to enjoy our Kia’s, and the sport of automotive tuning, so if you don‘t really care about your ride, or being a part of NWKT, then maybe this community isn‘t for you.

Open Communication - The success of our community is dependant on having open communication between it‘s members. Respectful comments, or questions, are always welcomed and encouraged. It doesn’t matter if it’s about the entire NWKT community, or organization itself, or an individual member of the Team. If, at any time, you disagree with something, or someone, we encourage you to communicate about it to us immediately so that it can be quickly addressed. We pride ourselves in having a democratically run organization, relying on the input, and advice of all our members.

Teamwork - NWKT was solely created with this in mind, and we continue to exist because of it. You’ve all heard of the old adage, “there’s no ‘I’ in team”… well, believe it. If one member of NWKT is successful in something, be it a race, or a trophy win at a car show, they couldn’t have done it without the support of the entire Team. We do everything as a Team, first and foremost.

Support - NWKT will require that all members will have at least one prominently displayed vinyl NWKT decal on their ride. The small, 1"x10" decal will suffice, and to encourage the use of our vinyl, we will provide your first one for free, if necessary, as part of your yearly dues donation. Other vinyl decals, of varying sizes, and/or colors will also be made available at a reasonable cost to all registered members.

(NOTE: the NWKT logo/font cannot be changed, or altered in any way. The default color for all of our vinyl is bright silver. Other colors may be considered when an order is placed, but will be deemed as a “special order” request, and the cost will vary slightly from our default color vinyl.)

NWKT will require that all of it’s members hold staffing positions within the structure of NWKT. Some of those positions are Forum Moderator, Event Coordinator, Regional Leader, Media Relations, Advertising and Marketing Coordinator, and “Street Crew”.

Attendance - Optimistically, we would like to have 100% attendance at all NWKT events, but we understand how life has a way of not making that possible sometimes. Nonetheless, we have felt the need to enforce more stringent guidelines on attendance, as this is the best way to show your support for NWKT, and this sport. Repeated failures to attend any NWKT event without legitimate reasons for your absence (i.e. medical reasons, incarceration, out-of-state vacations, etc.), will result in disciplinary actions up to, and including, being asked to leave NWKT.

Monthly Meets - A majority of our members reside in Western Washington, so most of our activities are planned with that in mind, and our Monthly Meets are no exception. All Western Washington NWKT members are expected to attend 50%, or more, of all planned Monthly Meets. Members outside of this general location are more than welcome to attend, although they will have to make their own arrangements to do so, and are subsequently not expected to adhere to the 50% attendance rule. They are more than welcome to plan their own Meet with other members near their area, and then provide everyone with meeting notes, photos, or any other communications that were shared at the event.
It is also required that each member make at least one other major NWKT event per year. Can be a car show, Auto-X event, street cruise, BBQ, dinner, etc.

Participation - If you’re attending of our events, then you’re participating. If you’re joining us for our events, then your participating. If you make frequent, and relevant posts on our Forum, or joining us for an Online Chat, then your participating (ideally, we would like to have our members make at least one relevant post a week). If you’re handing out flyers, invite cards, or any other membership recruiting activities, then you’re participating.

If you’re not doing any of these things, or anything relatively close to these things, then you're not participating, and that won‘t set well with the rest of the Team. You will be given one (1) opportunity, and one opportunity only, to change your ways. And, if you still don't want to participate, then you will be encouraged to leave the community. We only do this because we need active members, not ones that just sit idly by waiting for their next “free meal”.

Individuals with health related issues, family care issues, stringent employment issues, or the like, will receive a one-time leniency on this rule. We always try to provide plenty of notification about any of our events, and activities as to allow everyone the opportunity to participate in them.

Street Racing -

Here’s a couple RCW’s (Revised Code of Washington) regarding street racing:

RCW 46.61.530

Racing of vehicles on highways - Reckless driving -- Exception

No person or persons may race any motor vehicles upon any public highway of this state. Any person or persons who willfully compare or contest relative speeds by operation of one or more motor vehicles shall be guilty of racing, which shall constitute reckless driving under RCW 46.61.500, whether or not such speed is in excess of the maximum speed prescribed by law: PROVIDED HOWEVER, That any comparison or contest of the accuracy with which motor vehicles may be operated in terms of relative speeds not in excess of the posted maximum speed does not constitute racing.

RCW 46.61.500

Reckless Driving - Penalty

(1) Any person who drives any vehicle in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property is guilty of reckless driving. Violation of the provisions of this section is a gross misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment of not more than one year and by a fine of not more than five thousand dollars.

(2) The license or permit to drive or any nonresident privilege of any person convicted of reckless driving shall be suspended by the department for not less than thirty days.

These are just for Washington state. Each city, and municipality have their own ordinances regarding street racing. Some are just as severe, if not more, than the State's. As you can clearly see, not only is street racing against the law, it's also a stupid thing to do. Why put yourself, your ride, your license and the safety of others in jeopardy? There’s a time and place for everything, and street racing is no exception.

We’re fortunate to have several venues that host racing sports throughout the Pacific Northwest. If you’re unknowledgeable about these places, don’t hesitate to ask us about them, and we’ll gladly provide that information for you. In fact, you should be able to find some of that info on our “Links” page on our main website.

We’re very concerned about the safety of our members, and definitely do not want the wrong image portrayed about them, or NWKT, through street racing. Just don’t do it.

Fun - This is of utmost important to us. We want all members to have fun being a part of NWKT. Since this is a non-competitive car community, meaning there is no competitions of any kind between the members of this community, we want everyone to enjoy being a part of NWKT. No “drama”, of any kind, will not be tolerated. If this is something that you cannot control for yourself, then maybe this site, or community, isn’t for you. There are plenty of other groups out there for you that allow that kind of thing. NWKT is not one of them.

If, after you’ve reviewed all of these guidelines, and NWKT still sounds like the car community for you, then go ahead and fill out the membership application below.

By clicking on the "Submit" button, you agree to the above stated guidelines. Any violation of these guidelines by any registered member of NWKT will result in immediate removal from our community, including revoked access to our Forum.

Please allow at least 48 hours for our Site Admin to contact you about your membership application. If, after that time, you have not received any communications from our Site Admin, please do not fill out, and submit, the Membership Form again. Instead, send them an email regarding your membership status.

We look forward to receiving your membership application, and hope that you will enjoy being a part of NWKT..
